15-Minute FREE Consultation

Finding a “good fit” can be one of the most important parts of your therapeutic journey.

I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to each potential client. This gives us an opportunity to see if we connect and talk a bit more about your goals, and will also allow me to answer any questions that you may have. At the end of this call, you may decide to schedule an appointment while on the phone, or you can take more time to determine if this will be the best fit for you.

FAQs

How can therapy help me?

Therapist can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for all issues that may occur within a persons life.

Many people find that therapists can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution. The benefits that you obtain from therapeutic services is dependent on how well you use the process and put to practice what you learn.

Some of the benefits available from therapy include, but are not limited to:

  • Attaining a better understanding of yourself, your goals and values

  • Developing skills for improving your relationships

  • Finding resolution to issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy

  • Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety

  • Managing anger, grief, depression, and other emotional pressures

  • Improving communications and listening skills

  • Changing old behavior patterns and developing new ones

  • Discovering new ways to solve problems in your family or marriage

  • Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence

How does teletherapy work?

Teletherapy is becoming more and more common. It is an excellent way for you to get support in a space where you feel comfortable, and also eliminates some of the hassle of getting to and from in-person therapy sessions. All of my teletherapy sessions are conducted via video chat (unless otherwise discussed) on my HIPAA compliant practice management software, SimplePractice. Prior to each session, it is important to ensure that you are in a private place where you feel comfortable and that you are connected to a strong internet signal to avoid interruptions.

What about medication vs. therapy?

It is well established that long-term solutions to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress.

You can best achieve sustainable growth and greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness. Working with your medical doctor, you can determine what's best for you, and in some cases a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider and do not bill insurance directly for treatment. Some insurance companies will cover some or all of the costs of my services as an out-of-network provider. If you have a PPO, I am able to provide you with a monthly “super bill” that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement. A super bill is a document that includes my contact and license information, dates of service, a code that represents your diagnosis, a code indicating the length and type of our session and the fee for each session. You can contact your insurance company directly to get more information on reimbursement for out-of-network providers.

Do I really need therapy? I can usually handle my problems!

Everyone goes through challenging situations in life, and while you may have successfully navigated through other difficulties you've faced, there's nothing wrong with seeking out extra support when you need it.

In fact, therapy is for people who have enough self-awareness to realize they need a helping hand, and that is something to be admired. You are taking responsibility by accepting where you're at in life and making a commitment to change the situation by seeking therapy.

Therapy provides long-lasting benefits and support, giving you the tools you need to avoid triggers, re-direct damaging patterns, and overcome whatever challenges you face.

What is therapy like?

Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. In general, you can expect to discuss the current events happening in your life, your personal history relevant to you, and report progress (or any insights gained) from the previous therapy sessions.

Depending on your specific needs, therapy can be short-term, for a specific issue, or longer-term, to deal with more difficult patterns or your desire for more personal development. Either way, it is more common to schedule regular sessions with your therapist (usually weekly).

How do I pay for sessions?

Payment for sessions can be made directly through your client portal on SimplePractice using credit or debit card. You are also able to use cards associated with your FSA/HSA. You always have the option to enroll in auto pay, meaning you will be charged automatically following each appointment.

How many sessions will I need?

Each person is unique and, therefore so is each therapeutic relationship. Length of treatment is dependent on your individual needs and goals. This can be discussed further at the beginning of treatment.

What happens after I schedule my initial appointment?

Once you decide you would like to begin working  together, I will create an account for you on SimplePractice. Your client portal will give you access to initial paperwork, policies, and consent forms which will take approximately 10- 20 minutes to complete.

Do you offer sliding scale?

A sliding scale based on income may be offered on occasion. I reserve several spots in my schedule to offer these sliding scale fees, and when possible I will work with you to find a way for therapy to be financially sustainable. If you do not think you can afford my full fee, please do not hesitate to contact me. Additionally, there are different package options available which come great discounts.

Non-traditional therapy? Yes, please.

This isn’t your typical tea sipping therapy on a couch.

While that’s great in all, I offer a more relaxed approach. We’re human. We make mistakes. We curse. We aren’t always “professional”.

I offer a safe space for my clients to be 110% themselves.
